Sandplay For Life

About Dr. Hartshorn

Catherine Hartshorn

My vocation found me early: in sixth grade people were coming to me to confide and to talk through what they might do. Instead of becoming a therapist directly, I took a detour … as a high school Spanish teacher, but came back to my calling and have had a private practice for 30+ years.

I did career counseling and brief therapy at the Counseling Center at UC, Berkeley for ten years, and also taught in the School of Education. At the Wright Institute, I supervised the clinical work of Ph.D. students. I was an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

I bring a broad perspective to my clients because I also have fifteen years of experience consulting to the corporate world. I understand general systems, group dynamics, leadership skills, authority structures and power. I was a group leader at Stanford for the summer Executive Development Program.

On the personal side, I have experience healing from a narcissistic mother and surviving a difficult divorce from a narcissistic husband.

These experiences give me the skills and empathy to be certified by Dr. Karyl McBride in WIEBGE (Will I Ever Be Good Enough), a 5-step recovery program for adult children of a narcissistic parent.

I am also a vetted and trusted referral source for Divorceify.
